The Forgotten Town
Situated at the east bank of the tourist-beaten Li River, some 23km southeast Guilin, Daxu(means "big market") is a time-honored town with a history of over 1000 years. It was formed at the beginning of Northern Song Dynasty(960-1126) and flourished during the Ming Dynasty when it became the commercial center of the area. The primy of Daxu came during KMT's reign over China between 1911 and 1949.
Daxu has maintained its antique style from the Ming Dynasty. A flagging street lined with old residences, shops and stalls, some of them are well-preserved. The single-arched Wanshou(Longevity)Bridge is one of the main attractions.
On the other side of the river, opposite Daxu Town, isolated the small Maozhou Island. Villagers still live a very pristine life by farming and fishing.
